So lässt sich der 3D-Effekt je nach Wunsch bis zum Maximum hochfahren - aber auch reduzieren oder ganz abschalten.
Zusätzlich zu den herkömmlichen Tasten und dem Steuerkreuz verfügt der Nintendo 3DS über ein Schiebepad, das eine stufenlose 360-Grad-Steuerung ermöglicht. Es verleiht den Spielern die Bewegungsfreiheit, die sie in einer dreidimensionalen Welt benötigen. Sie erhalten darüber eine ebenso direkte Rückmeldung wie damals, als sie in Super Mario 64 für Nintendo 64 ihre Figur erstmals mit einem Analog-Stick lenken konnten.
